Artemis II Astronaut Christina Koch Fixes Spacecraft Toilet Calls Herself Space Plumber
The crew of Artemis II handled an unexpected issue shortly after launch, as a fault appeared in the spacecraft’s toilet system.
Astronaut Christina Koch stepped in to fix the glitch in the urine collection system with guidance from Mission Control, successfully restoring it within hours. She later joked in a NASA video, calling herself the “space plumber,” drawing laughs from her crewmates.
The mission, led by Reid Wiseman along with Victor Glover and Jeremy Hansen, marks the first crewed lunar flyby mission since 1972.
With the issue resolved, the 10 day mission is now continuing smoothly, keeping its focus on testing systems for future Moon missions.
