RIP Colonel Sonam Wangchuk | The Lion of Ladakh Passes Away India has lost a true legend. Colonel Sonam Wangchuk (Retd), the "Lion of Ladakh" and a decorated Kargil War hero, passed away on April 10, 2026, at age 61. He led his team at a freezing 18,000 feet to capture a strategic ridge in the Batalik Sector, successfully fighting off an enemy ambush.
